Crowdsourced inspiration, 2011 – 2012
52 people were invited to provide a photo of an object that inspired a drawing and 52 word story. Each week, a wider audience was invited to share thoughts on the objects, eg ‘what’s the first thing that comes to mind, when you think of a toy?’ The people that provided objects received a first viewing and an outline of the creative journey that lead to the final artwork. The project concluded when 52 artworks were produced. They were displayed in an exhibition that included a ‘People’s Choice’ award.
Some themes that emerged included:
- The creative journey of the artworks and the story of the project
- Participation in the artistic process
- The meaning and symbolism of objects
- Mythology – especially Irish Mythology
- Connections to past, present and future
